Arignar Anna Government Arts college for women, walajapet is the only women government institution in pioneering higher education in Vellore District. Thiru. Belliappa, IAS the then collector of vellore with the help of public and academician interested in women education initiated The campus is spreaded in 40 acres and the foundation stone was laid by the then education minister honourable V.R. Nedunchezhian in 20th April 1968. The building was opened by the then Honourable Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi in the name of then Honourable Chief Minister Perarignar Anna. Peace, Purity and knowledge is the motto of the college. This College was established with a clear mission to provide women a modern liberal education and thus to improve the status of women in this district to transform the society and nation. It has all started from pre university course with 15 students and then updated with Degree courses in History in 2nd Year and Maths in 3rd year. UG course in zoology was started in 1972-1973, Tamil in 1973-1974, Chemistry in 1979-1980, Botany in 1980-1981, Commerce in 1985-1986, Computer Science in 1990-1991 and Economics in 1998-1999. PG course in Tamil In 2014, UG degree courses in Physics, English, Computer Application, Corporate Secretaryship and Business Administration. PG degree courses in Commerce, Chemistry, Botany, History, Maths and Zoology were introduced in 2013. In 2014-2015, M.Phil courses in Economics, In 2017-2018 academic year, M.Phil in Botany, Chemistry and History and PG course in English was started. M.Sc. Physics, M.Phil. Mathematics, M.Phil Tamil, M.Phil. English and M.Phil. Commerce was started in the year 2018-2019. This institution has become the model in giving academic and co-curricular activites. Totally we have 14 UG courses, 11 PG courses, and 10 M.Phil courses providing nonformal education. Apart from clas* room teaching, the college provides several supporting programmes such as placement cell and career guidance cell to support the students.
