If this is your first time encountering R: The R language (and open-source software) is the de facto standard among statisticians for the development of statistical software, and is widely used for statistical software development and data ysis (for more details about R you can read the post What is R?) What is R-Bloggers.com? R-Bloggers is about empowering bloggers to empower other R users. R-Bloggers.com is a blog aggregator of content contributed by bloggers who write about R (in English). The site helps R bloggers and users to connect and follow the R blogosphere (you can view a 7 minute talk, from useR2011, for more information about the R-blogosphere). How does R-Bloggers operate? This site will aggregate feeds (only with permission!) from participating R blogs. The beginnings of each participating blog's posts will automatically be displayed on the main page; inside every post there is a link to the original blog and links to other related articles. All participating blogs will have links in the Contributors section of our sidebar What does R-Bloggers offer you? Discover (for all): Find new R blogs you didn't know about. And Search in them for content you want. Follow (for people who don't use RSS): Enter your e-mail and subscribe to receive a daily digest with teasers of new posts from participating blogs. You will more easily get a sense of hot topics in the R blogosphere. Connect (for facebook users): Click on Fan this site to become a fan of R Bloggers. You can then friend other people and share thoughts on our wall. Or just by leaving comments on the blog. Participate (for bloggers): Add your R blog to get increased visibility (for readers and search engines) with permanent links on our Contributors sidebar. Your blog will also gain visibility via our e-mail digest and through your presence on the main page with posts. How do I become a participating blog in R Bloggers? To add your blog, simply click on Add your blog! and enter the required information. R-bloggers is R centric and therefor only accept posts which are directly related to R. That means that your posts (often) need to either have R code in them (or at least say the word R), or deal with the R system, R implementation of some interesting case study, or the R community. General (non R related) posts about statistics, programming or life do not belong here. If you blog about other things than R, that is fine, just make sure to create an R category in your blog and submit only it (if you don't know what is your R category feed is, just submit it as is – and I will help you)talk about the I will review your link and approve it in a timely fashion. How can I help? We share readers to gain readers! If you haven't already, submit your blog. Please put a link from your blog to R-Bloggers from your sidebar (we do the same for you); you can even put up a post about us – if each blogger will do so – all of us will gain from it. You can also join our Facebook page and share it with your friends on Facebook. If you know of other R bloggers who are not yet participating, please let them know about the site and urge them to add their blogs. Who started R-Bloggers (and why)? R Bloggers was started by Tal Galili. After searching for numerous R blogs, Tal (well, me) decided that there must be more R blogs our there than he knows about, and maybe the best way for finding them is to make them find him. What will happen once I add my blog here? Adding your blog to the directory will allow us to aggregate feeds from your (R) blog. Each time you post a new article on your blog, our site will automatically show an excerpt from it on the main page. The post that will be added will include a link back to your original post (and another link to your blog's main page), thus driving interested readers to your site! Also, all participating blogs will have links in the Contributors section of our sidebar. To learn more about the benefits of participating, please visit our about page. We would appreciate a link back from your site to in order to help us grow. What to do if I also write about other things besides R? There is a solution. All you need to do is add a category (or a tag) named R (or r-project, or whatever is comfortable for you), use it for all your R related posts, and submit it instead. To most modern blogging platform (WordPress, blogger, movable type, etc...), there is a way for getting the RSS feed of a particular category only (you can submit just the category link, and I'll find the RSS feed link.) What are the best practices to follow so to keep my site on R-bloggers There are several guidelines you should follow so your site will get on/stay on R-bloggers (and serve the R community as best as possible): The feed you submit should ONLY be about R (e.g: with R code, or directly related to the R world/community). If you present a use-case of getting nice results with R then make an effort to have the results in your post reproducible as possible (by including the R code in the post itself or by giving a link to some github repo with your R code). The feed should NOT include tweet like articles (e.g: Short pieces of text) The feed should NOT include posts that only have code snippets. The code should be accompanied by text that clearly explains the context and value of the code that is presented. Make sure the HTML of your feed's content is well formatted - otherwise it would not be able to load on r-bloggers. This includes to NOT copy-pasting from RStudio's notebook extension - the feed should NOT include base64 images, make sure your images are saved as png or similar file formats. The feed should include well written articles: please make sure to proof read your English and avoid foul language Submit a feed with full content, abstract/excerpts will not be accepted - this content will be shown in full in R-bloggers' feed and email. Here are a few tips for how to get it done. On WordPress blogs you can fix this by going to settings -> reading -> For each article in a feed, show -> Full text. On Hugo blogs (blogdown blogs) you can try the following: Configure the default RSS template given here: replacing `{{ .Summary | html }}` with `{{ .Content | html }}` The content should of the feed should not include any automatic redirects Submit your blog's feed only after you have already published some posts (at least two, and ones that show your vast knowledge of R and related disciplines) Link to R-bloggers from your blogroll (sidebar), and/or from a post. You do not have to do it, but it is for the greater good to help bring new readers to r-bloggers Please avoid overloading/spamming the site with: too many posts per day, SEO driven content or links, ads in the posts (banners, affiliate links etc.). Such content may be changed by R-bloggers (automatically or manually) or removed. If you wish to make sure your blogging practices fits the site you can e-mail me for questions. Make sure your feed is fast to load. If using WordPress, consider a caching plugin (such as wp super cache, or W3 total cache.
