A Co-Educational Modern Orthodox Jewish Day School in the Heart of NYC Nine senior students who elected to register for a new course, Service Learning, are meeting and speaking with people who have made unparalleled contributions to communities that few of us have on our radar. Students were introduced to Malawi in Africa to learn about dedicated and principled individuals who are determined, against all odds, to design and successfully implement inventions that while using the most up-to-date entrepreneurial principles, address devastating conditions: hunger, widespread health threats, climate change causing droughts, erratic growing seasons causing volatile economies, and poor education, Bronia Brandman. A native of western Poland, Mrs. Brandman lost almost her entire family to the Nazis, and she herself is a child survivor of Auschwitz. The students heard Mrs. Brandman describe her life before the war, surrounded by cousins and other extended family members, and and taking a clas* vote, the children chose to study author Frank Asch. They read some of his books while learning about space, and when the question was posed as to which author to study, Frank Asch was the clear winner.. The second Tier 2 opening round game featured The Ramaz School from NYC v. Yeshivat Shaare Torah from Brooklyn, NY. Ramaz started off strong and built up a sizable lead in the first half. Shaare Torah eventually got their game back and closed a ten point gap to a 19-15 deficit at half time. In the second half, Shaare Torah started to take command and built up a small lead. Ramaz was determined and tied the game. With less than a minute left, Shaare Torah hit a basket to take the lead. The Ramaz last second attempt fell short and Shaare Torah moved on to the Championship Game by a final score of 39-38... by Morah Ruthie, the students put on a play to show what they learned. Each clas* made their own costumes and took on different roles. As the narrator read the perek, the students acted out the scenes.
